These figures are likely to be minimums rather than maximums, however, and the full extent of young caregiving is likely to be higher. There are few reliable figures on the number of children involved in caregiving in other countries.
However, since this study an increasing number of African children have become affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, suggesting that a higher proportion of children are now likely to be involved in caring for sick parents and relatives.
